Sax, Adolphe

Adolphe Sax(1814-1894), Belgian instrument maker, an accomplished flutist and clarinetist, inventor of saxotrmoba, saxhorn and saxophone. In 1842 he set up shop in Paris, developing and patenting families of new instruments; the saxhorns, saxtrombas, and saxphones. He taught at the Paris Conservatory, 1857-71 and published a saxphone method.
