Schmidt, Josef

Joseph Schmidt(1904-1942), A Jewish-Ukraine-Romanian tenor and actor, his first vocal training was as a altoboy in the Czenowitz Synagogue, by 1924 he was featured in his first solo recital, moved to Berlin for further study, his voice was extremely well suited for radio and featured in many radio broadcasts and acted in several movies in both German and English. He had a sweet lyric tenor voice with an easy high register, sailing up even to a high D.
