Smetana, Bedrich(1)

Bedrich Smetana(1824-1884), Czech(Bohemian) composer, inspired by Liszt's Prague recital in 1840, determined to be a musician. In 1856 he left Prague for Gotenborg, Sweden where he opened music school, conducting choral society, and organized chamber concerts with success. In 1861 he returned to Prague, and 1863 he was elected head of the music section of the new Society of Arts. He composed symphonic poems(My Fatherland.. etc), operas(The Bartered Bride, Daliber... etc), and chamber music.
